With Valentine's Day just around the corner, its time - if you haven't already - to start planning trips for your sweetheart. And if you're looking for something both romantic and luxurious, boy, do I have the perfect destinations for you.
The thoughtful editors at Forbes Travelers have compiled a list of the world's most romantic resorts. Not only that, but they are lagoon resorts. How romantic. Imagine watching the sunset over a glass of wine, listening to the sweet sounds of the water cascading off the beach. Makes you want to go, huh?
Lucky for you, a few of the resorts are not that far away. And others, well, will require a plane ride. But, trust me, from the sounds of these resorts the trip will be worth it. Plus, just think about the points you'll score.
Here are two of my favorites:
St. Regis Resort, Bora Bora, French Polynesia
This Polynesian outpost of Starwood's luxury brand has five 3,455-square-foot over-water villas built around their own private pool on the edge of the lagoon; each has two bedrooms, two full bathrooms and two private terrace gazebos. The 13,000-square-foot Royal Estate has three separate pavilions surrounding a private pool, and features a private spa area and lush tropical gardens that border a private white-sand beach. The resort's 13,000-square-foot Miri Miri Spa occupies its own private island and offers Tahitian and Pacific Rim treatments. All resort villas also feature St. Regis' signature butler service.
This luscious resort occupies a privately owned, 300-acre island three miles off the west coast of Malaysia, along the Straits of Malacca. Many of its villas are on stilts over the sea; among these are the Suria and Purnama suites, with a bedroom, lounge and bathroom with an oversize tub and windows that overlook the water. Activities include fishing; jungle-trekking; a cruise on a teakwood, Oriental junk to a sheltered cove, for a lunchtime barbecue or sunset dinner; golf; yoga; and tai chi. Batik painting is also taught daily.
